[Performance Introduction] Inner Landscapes Complete Beethoven Violin Sonatas — Second Series Violin Sonata No. 6 in A Major Op.30-1 · No. 7 in C minor Op.30-2 · No. 8 in G Major Op.30-3 Grouping three pieces into one: About the Op.30 set In 1802, Beethoven faced the irreversible reality of hearing loss in Heiligenstadt and wrote his famous testament. The three sonatas (Op.30) composed in that very year paradoxically show a much more intimate and contemplative musical language than before. On a path different from the brilliant and extroverted virtuoso route leading to the Kreutzer Sonata (Op.47), these three pieces look into the 'interior' in different ways: one with lyricism, one with passion and silence, and one with humor and leisure. The title of today's program, "Inner Landscapes," was chosen to draw together these three completely different inner maps that emerged from the same year and the same time of crisis.
