About this event

Artist Boriyoon uses a unique collage technique where she collects text from magazines and articles, cuts them into thin strips, and arranges these paper ribbons—stripped of their original meaning—onto a canvas to complete an image. While magazine articles are tools for delivering social messages, once deconstructed, the text loses its intended content and takes on an entirely new meaning as an image. Boriyoon’s work begins with the question, 'How can conflicts and contradictions in the reality of life be resolved aesthetically?' By deconstructing fragmentary social stories and transforming them into paintings of ideal and aesthetic images, she explores reflections on modern society and the healing potential of art beyond visual beauty. The solo exhibition 'Blooming Text' held at Gallery Imazoo literally means 'text that blossoms' or 'opening text.' Just as an 'opening text' (foreword) greets a reader before the main body of a book, this title is positioned at the entrance of the exhibition hall where a fairy-tale-like story begins. Furthermore, this exhibition signifies a project where Gallery Imazoo reads Boriyoon’s work and summarizes the key points and feelings; finally, the title encapsulates Boriyoon’s working process of opening a magazine to make flowers bloom. In front of screens where letters that have lost their meaning bloom again into beautiful landscapes, we hope you discover the possibility that reality and fantasy do not erase each other but can exist together.
