Gwacheon-si National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Gwacheon (MMCA Gwacheon)
Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the opening of the Gwacheon Museum, we are promoting a series of site-specific installation projects themed around 'light' to newly illuminate the museum and allow visitors to experience deeper artistic immersion inside and outside the museum. In collaboration with domestic and international contemporary artists, architects, and designers, including James Turrell's new acquisition <Imaginations, Wide Rectangular Curve>, as well as Koo Jeong-a, Kim A-young, Philippe Parreno, and Iván Navarro, their works will be installed in major indoor and outdoor spaces of the museum to newly reinterpret the space based on the placehood of the Gwacheon Museum. Through this, we intend to propose a new sensory experience mediated by light. In particular, utilizing the Gwacheon Museum's unique characteristic as a museum in nature, we plan to implement spatial programs both inside and outside the museum where art, nature, and contemplation organically connect.
