About this event

[Performance Introduction] A stage where Korean traditional dancers unfold dance, words, and experiments together. An experimental lecture performance that opens questions together. 〈An Uncoexistable Coexistence〉 is a new work by choreographer Cho In-ho, who has practiced Korean traditional dance. It is an experimental lecture performance where dance, speech, and experimentation come together. Rather than showing a single, well-structured dance, this work presents various attempts and questions on the stage. It starts with the questions, "What is dance, and what is a performance?" Rather than showing a finished dance, it unravels the movements accumulated in the body one by one to look at them again. Things that are difficult to exist together—like tradition and the present, seeing and experiencing, being alive and disappearing—are not forced to unite, but are placed side by side on one stage as they are. The audience will see and hear different things depending on where they sit. Some will breathe together closely with the stage, while others will view the whole from afar. This stage, combining not only dance but also words, sounds, light, and darkness, suggests a 50-minute experience felt through the senses of the entire body, going beyond a show merely to be watched. [Synopsis] Even though we come to see the same performance, we ultimately fail to see the same thing. The stage begins by breathing together with the audience. Dances polished over a long time are unraveled piece by piece, and things that cannot coexist stand in one place. Experiencing and seeing, tradition and the present, being alive and disappearing stand side by side for a moment without clicking together. Depending on whether you sit surrounding the stage or away from it, the performance approaches with a different face. Sometimes the dance stops, words intervene, and multiple dances pour out from all sides at once. Then, as the light fades, the audience meets the unseen dance once again within their own bodies.
