About this event

[Introduction] When the rhythm sounds, the stage becomes a festival. The orchestral performance <Festival> presented by the National Gugak Center's Creative Music Group is a stage that breaks down the boundaries of Gugak (traditional Korean music) orchestra by reinterpreting the deep breath of tradition with a modern sensibility, unfolding the essence of dynamic Korean music. Amidst the grand orchestral sound, the delicate melodies of daegeum, piri, and haegeum come alive. From Yang Bang-ean's 'Frontier'—familiar through broadcasts—to the deep resonance of Seodo Sori, the brilliant virtuosity of the mystical saenghwang, and the solemn beauty of 'Beompi Jungnyu' from Simcheongga, the process where the sentiment of sorrow (han) powerfully rises into the energy of excitement (sinmyeong) is dramatically depicted. The wave-like sound created by overlapping different breaths clearly reveals the essence of Korean music. Especially at the climax of the performance, 'Pannoreum', blending Samulnori and orchestra, will offer overwhelming excitement that unites the stage and the audience. Popular flows and colorful compositions are added to boldly break the stereotype that "tradition is boring," so that even audience members unfamiliar with Gugak will be fascinated by its dynamic energy and fully enjoy the beauty and excitement of our sound in this thrilling festival field.
