[About the Show] The prelude to an epic saga completed over 26 years He who becomes the master of the ring shall become its slave and fall into ruin Korea National Opera brings Wagner's opera <Das Rheingold> to the stage, opening the prelude to 'The Ring of the Nibelung' series. <Das Rheingold> is the starting point of the 4-part epic saga that Wagner completed over 26 years, condensing the origins of love, power, greed, and curses into a mythical narrative. Portraying the moment the world order cracks through the conflict over the Rhine Gold, this work presents the core philosophy running through the entire series for the first time. Conductor Lothar Koenigs, who made a deep impression with his dense conducting in 2024's <Die tote Stadt>, takes the baton to reveal the structural tension and energy of Wagner's music. Director Lorenzo Fioroni, who showcased flexible imagination and contemporary sensibility in 2025's <The Love for Three Oranges>, participates to interpret the mythical story, marking the beginning of an unprecedented long-term project in the domestic opera scene continuing through 2028. [Synopsis] 'Blinded by gold, you shall yield before the Ring of the Nibelung' Deep within the Rhine, three maidens guard the gold. Alberich, a dwarf consumed by the lure of power, woos them, but the maidens mock him. Mocked, Alberich curses love and ultimately steals the gold to forge a ring. Meanwhile, Wotan, king of the gods, has the giant brothers build Valhalla Castle, promising the goddess of youth, Freia, as payment; however, faced with losing eternal youth, the gods are seized with terror. Wotan tries to resolve the issue by taking Alberich's ring, but Alberich leaves a curse upon it. As Wotan tries to ignore the curse, the goddess Erda appears to warn him, and Wotan ultimately hands the ring over to the giants. The ring immediately stirs greed, driving the giant brothers to kill each other, and the gods enter Valhalla Castle built upon that tragedy.
