[Performance Introduction] Winner of the 67th Kishida Kunio Playwriting Award Premiered in September 2022 at KAAT Kanagawa Arts Theatre Large Studio, Matsumoto Performing Arts Centre, and Sapporo Creative Studio Revised version toured 4 Japanese cities in January-February 2025 'Dodo' is the name of a flightless bird that went extinct in the 17th century. According to some theories, the dodo disappeared without a trace because of humans. On stage, a protagonist who somehow resembles that bird appears. It is Natsume, a comedian who used to make everyone laugh with his whimsical behavior. One day, when it is revealed that he suffers from schizophrenia, the people who laughed along can no longer laugh. This is because they can no longer tell whether his behavior is for fun or due to his illness. Standing on stage requires agility and spontaneity, but the medicine that suppresses his symptoms suppresses that very spontaneity. Thus, the more he pursues 'being himself', the more abnormal he becomes, trapped in a paradox where he must let go of 'being himself' to be considered normal. Whether to laugh or try to empathize, the audience is equally confused. How far can we understand him? What will we think as we look at the falling bird? The buzz in the audience after the curtain falls might be the current state of our awareness regarding so-called 'illnesses of the mind'. [Synopsis] Comedian Natsume is not recognized by his wife, but is considered a funny guy among his partner, colleagues, and friends. One day, he begins to hear a voice.
