About this event

[Introduction] Roman Kim Violin Recital Russian-born violinist Roman Kim is a performer spotlighted for his overwhelming technique and original interpretations, earning him the nickname "Paganini of the 21st Century." Combining explosive energy and exquisite virtuosity, his performances leave a strong impression even among contemporary musicians, showing exceptional interpretative depth, particularly in the Paganini repertoire. Growing up in a musical family as a fourth-generation ethnic Korean, he studied under world-class masters at the Central Music School of Moscow and the Cologne University of Music, expanding his domain beyond performance into composition, arrangement, and instrument and sound experimentation. Constantly exploring new sounds without staying bound to tradition, his musical world is suggesting a new direction for contemporary violin art. The concert begins with Tartini's "Teufelstriller (Devil's Trill)," an interpretation that stretches the limits of the violin through a work requiring superhuman technique and dramatic expression. Following this, Roman Kim's own works—"Valse pour Ana (Waltz for Ana)," "Cri de l’Âme (Cry of the Soul)," and "Sanctus et Agnus Dei"—are expressed in various musical languages. Lastly, Paganini's La Campanella brings the first half to a powerful close with brilliant virtuosity and tension. After the intermission, Chausson's Poème begins with a deep, lyrical melody, followed by Roman Kim's "Romance in B Major," "Romance in G♭ Major," and "I Brindisi (The Drinking Song)," and concludes with Roman Kim's arrangement of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Eine kleine Nachtmusik. Merging traditional violin repertoire, modern creations, and arrangements into one fluid stream, this concert presents a multi-dimensional look at Roman Kim's original musical world. Through superhuman technique, experimental interpretation, and a powerful stage presence, he will present audiences with new possibilities and an expanded artistic horizon for violin music.
