About this event

[ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE] This performance holds significance as the inaugural concert of the Gugak composers' group 'Creative Traditional Musicians Omnium' (Changjak Jeonaksa Omnium). Basing itself on memories and records of the past to interact with the present and the future, Omnium takes its first step under the theme of traditional Korean 'play'. In this performance, the concept of traditional Korean 'play' is expanded into musical actions and structures. It translates various levels of Korean musical culture based on amusement and play—ranging from the symbolic meaning of traditional play to the elegance achieved through interaction between instruments, and gut (shamanic ritual) and nongak (farmers' music) formed within life—into composition methods. This aims to propose new creative possibilities from traditional elements. Furthermore, through our group's working method where the composer leads the planning and structure of the performance, we seek to explore artistic possibilities where the creator's thinking and expression freely expand.
