About this event

[Introduction] This is the 7th Gayageum Byeongchang (singing while playing the gayageum) recital by Kim Ji-ae, who won the Presidential Award at the Gurye National Gayageum Competition and is an initiate of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage Gayageum Sanjo and Byeongchang. Kim Ji-ae has expanded the Gayageum Byeongchang repertoire by performing Pansori passages as Gayageum Byeongchang in every recital, performing them alongside the Bak Gwi-hui style of Gayageum Byeongchang. In this performance, she will present the Choe Ok-sam style short Gayageum Sanjo, the short song 'Jukjangmanghye', and passages from the Pansori 'Jeokbyeokga' on stage as Gayageum Byeongchang. Following the tradition of the Bak Gwi-hui style 'Sugungga' and the An Suk-seon style Gayageum Byeongchang passed down by Master An Suk-seon since the 21st century, Kim Ji-ae will premiere highlight passages she arranged herself from 'Jeokbyeokga' as Gayageum Byeongchang.
