20th Anniversary of Maekhwarang's Annual Exhibition '10-200, Happy Painting Exhibition', Continuing for 20 Years as the 'Beginning of Art Collecting' Maekhwarang in Haeundae, Busan, will hold the 《10-200, Happy Painting Exhibition》 from July 18 to August 22. Marking its 20th anniversary this year, this exhibition is Maekhwarang's representative summer annual exhibition held without missing a single year since its inception in 2007. Under the banner of 'popularization of art collecting' and 'lowering gallery barriers', it has been loved by many artists and collectors for 20 years. First started in 2007 under the name '100,000-Won Happy Painting Exhibition', the exhibition started as a one-time project showcasing about 40 artists and 80 works. However, with the consistent participation of artists who sympathized with the purpose of allowing more people to comfortably collect good works and the support of visitors, it has grown in size year by year and established itself as an annual exhibition that collectors nationwide look forward to in the summer. The 20 years of time recorded not only the exhibition but also the growth of participating artists. Emerging and young artists who participated in early exhibitions grew into mid-career artists representing the Korean art world, and those who viewed this exhibition in their student days later became artists and participated again. Each year's exhibition became a connection for the next, and one artist's participation introduced another, making the 《10-200, Happy Painting Exhibition》 a living archive created together by artists, collectors, and galleries. Combining the participant lists from the 1st to 20th editions, a total of 448 artists have participated in the exhibition so far, with 20 cumulative participation instances reaching 1,580 and cumulative exhibited works numbering approximately 3,860. In 2026, 61 artists ranging from emerging, young, mid-career, senior, and deceased artists will participate, showcasing about 200 works of various genres including painting, sculpture, photography, and printmaking.
