[Performance Introduction] 'Can revenge ever be justice?' A mother who killed her husband. Children who seek to avenge their father by killing their mother. And that revenge breeds yet another revenge. Bloodline 'Electra' is a work that re-examines family, lineage, revenge, and the cycle of violence from today's perspective, based on Sophocles' classic tragedy <Electra>. Electra, unable to forget her father's death, has spent many years waiting only for her younger brother Orestes to return. Believing that he will one day return to complete the revenge for their father's death, and finally, Orestes returns. The waiting is over and the revenge begins. But the moment the revenge they wanted is completed, we are faced with a new question. 'Is revenge paid in blood truly justice?' < Synopsis > King Agamemnon returns victorious from the Trojan War and is murdered. The one who killed him is his wife and Electra's mother, Clytemnestra. Having lost her father, Electra lives on harboring hatred and anger toward her mother. Her only remaining hope is her younger brother Orestes, who left the palace as a child. Electra believes, 'When that child returns, everything will be over.' But one day, she receives shocking news: Orestes is dead. And before her is placed an urn said to contain her brother's ashes. Believing that even her last hope has vanished, Electra collapses, clutching the urn to her chest. But then, Orestes, whom she believed to be dead, appears before her eyes. He was alive. Finally, the siblings meet again. The long-awaited time of revenge begins. Children who seek to repay their father's blood with their mother's blood. But what will truly remain at the end of a revenge that began with blood? < Director's Intent > 'Someone must stop this history of blood.' Sophocles' <Electra> is a story from thousands of years ago, but the questions it holds are still being asked today. Why do we inherit the hatred of previous generations? Electra remembers her father's death. But as time passes, that memory does not stop at grief. Grief becomes anger, anger becomes hatred, and finally, hatred becomes the conviction that 'revenge must be had.' In this work, Electra is not viewed simply as a figure obsessed with revenge. She, too, may be just another victim who inherited a tragedy that began before her. The hatred that the parents' generation could not end has become the fate of the children's generation. So the question this work asks is not 'Did the revenge succeed?' But 'Is the revenge truly over?' Blood calls for more blood, and revenge breeds more revenge. If so, who will stop first? Bloodline 'Electra' seeks to face that question together with the audience. < Why 'Bloodline'?! > 'BLOODLINE' Blood connects a family. But in this work, blood does not only mean love. From father to daughter, from parent to child, resentment, hatred, and revenge also flow like blood. Electra inherited a revenge she did not start, and Orestes also enters a destiny he did not choose. So the 'Bloodline' spoken of in Bloodline 'Electra' is not simple lineage. It is a destiny bound by blood, a cycle of violence repeated across generations. < Highlights > 1. Meeting ancient Greek tragedy as a story of today.
