The «Artist of the Year» is a representative contemporary art artist sponsorship program and award system co-hosted by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and the SBS Cultural Foundation since 2012. Selecting four artists each year, it supports the production of new works and exhibitions, and broadly supports each artist's international activities afterwards, thereby promoting the development of Korean contemporary art. Since 2023, through system improvements, artists' production support has been further strengthened, and exhibition compositions showcasing major previous works along with new commissions are presented to shed light on each artist's art world in a more three-dimensional manner. «Artist of the Year 2026» aims to deepen storytelling about the artist's thematic awareness and art world, thereby viewing major artists in the Korean art world from a macroscopic perspective and laying the groundwork to connect this with international art discourse.
