About this event

[Introduction] Geometry of Music II : Engraving NOTATION Pianist Lee Yeo-kyung will hold a piano recital on August 12 at Kumho Art Hall Yonsei, under the theme '<Geometry of Music II : Engraving NOTATION>'. Through her <Geometry of Music> performance, she presents a viewpoint that looks at the precise structure and design of music from various angles. Just as geometry is connected by relationships of points, lines, and planes, it is a project starting from the perspective that music also organically builds a world through notes, rhythm, and harmony. While the first series in 2024 explored how the form of a piece was transformed under the theme of 'Transformation,' this performance focuses on the theme of 'Engraving (Notation)'. Through the 'notation' engraved on the scores of composers, we explore how the inspiration, emotion, reality, and thoughts conceived by the composers were expressed in notes. This performance becomes a journey where pianist Lee Yeo-kyung personally decodes and realizes those traces of engraving into sound. Pianist Lee Yeo-kyung presents a program where composers engraved the real world onto scores through Notation, constructing those traces into geometric structures. Ligeti engraved the 'process of sound forming into structure' as symbols through open-string motifs and repeating patterns; Chopin recorded the swaying of waves in rhythm and melody; and Bach/Busoni's Chaconne completed an architectural form by obsessively expanding the same motif. Mussorgsky translated actual scenes into notes to realize musical painting. Pianist Lee Yeo-kyung poses a new way of approaching music through the process of realizing into sound the documents that each composer noted with geometric order. In addition, she wishes to discover the endless possibilities of music by continuing to explore various processes of realizing notes within structures as sounds. The emotions felt through pianist Lee Yeo-kyung's live performance within finely designed music become true records that we must look back on today. [Program] G.
