[Introduction] "From the grandeur of authentic classical music to the dynamism of popular music, an epic saga of harmony drawn with 38 years of melodies" As a pioneer of crossover music in Korea who has walked an unrivaled path for 38 years, the Seoul Pops Orchestra, together with music director Ha Sung-ho, presents a special anniversary concert that completely breaks down the boundaries between classical and modern popular music to celebrate their 38th anniversary. This performance was designed to synthesize Seoul Pops' 38 years of know-how in dressing traditional classical music in the flexibility of popular music, demonstrating its artistic substance and long-proven capacity to the audience in the world-class acoustic space of Lotte Concert Hall. On this stage, the orchestra's unique vitality is maximized through colorful Latin music such as Márquez's <Danzón No. 2> and <Cubana Carnival>. Concurrently, world-renowned baritone Ko Sung-hyun's overwhelming volume delivers the aria from Leoncavallo's opera <Pagliacci> and Ha Sung-ho's original composition <Life>, which honestly captures the conductor's autobiographical life story, bringing depth and lyricism fitting a dedicated classical hall. In addition, through collaboration with the legendary Korean pop singer Park Nam-jung, masterpieces such as <Because I Love You> and <Drawing You> are reinterpreted with grand orchestration, and diverse instrumental solos including two cellos, violin, and accordion, alongside the harmonies of the popera group La Classe W, present the maximum expressive power the orchestra can display. Particularly, by actively utilizing Lotte Concert Hall's rich reverberation and vineyard-style immersive structure, a three-dimensional and dynamic sound will cover the large-scale orchestra performance where vocal music, pop songs, and various instruments intersect. This will present classical lovers with the fresh shock of crossover music and general audiences with the essential joy and thrilling emotion of orchestral music, suggesting the most evolved form of 'popularizing classical music.' This performance focuses on the 'cultural synergy' created by the meeting of the historical value of 38 years of official history and the spatial value of Lotte Concert Hall. Through a broad repertoire composition that spans generations, it will breathe life into the local cultural and artistic ecosystem and simultaneously prove the steadfast self-reliance and artistic perfection of a private orchestra, serving as a precious opportunity to raise the status of Korean performance culture to the next level.
