[Performance Introduction] SIMF Chamber Music Series "A Journey of Life – Three Portraits" The flow of time, twilight and dawn, lyricism and meditation. The second stage of the 2026 Seoul International Music Festival paints these three colors with the music of Brahms, Ryu Jeajoon, and Shostakovich. First, Brahms' 'Clarinet Quintet, Op. 115' colors the stage with a golden sunset. This is a piece he wrote after being moved by the performance of clarinetist Richard Mühlfeld, despite having previously announced his retirement; traces of late-life regret are deeply embedded throughout the melodies. Following this, Ryu Jeajoon's 'Sextet for Trumpet, Horn, Strings, and Piano' pierces the darkness with the resonance of the first light created by the trumpet and horn, awakening a new time. It is also a stage where you can meet the performances of two masters, Sergei Nakariakov and Radovan Vlatković, up close. Finally, Shostakovich's 'Piano Quintet, Op. 57' opens quietly with a Bach-style prelude and fugue, but as the piece deepens, inner silence and passion intersect to open an abyss.
