About this event

[Performance Introduction] I didn't mean to make it funny, but life keeps becoming funny. 《You Call This a Comedy — How to Make a 1,000 Won Show》 is a first-time Fringe performance woven with jokes, confessions, failures, and longings drawn from the lives of people who live around bookstores, publishing, cultural planning, and food. A musical for a thousand won? How on earth do you make a show with a thousand won admission? One day, A got hooked on the news that a '1,000 Won Show' was sold out, and decided to take this eccentric price as the starting point of the performance. In an era where YouTube and short-form grab all our time, people who live making, selling, and introducing books gather to ask the question, "Can we make a show with just 1,000 won?" Within the small and funny condition of 1,000 won, we weave stories, food, objects, personal talents, self-produced ads, and conversations with the audience to create a single stage. Chaekdeok talks about the moment she first discovered comedian Miranda and her long-standing admiration for comedy. Through a delightful simulation toward her husband, who makes books but doesn't read them, she unpackages the irony of living with books but constantly missing them as comedy. Gongwol brings rice, snacks, and desserts to share and eat together, and addresses the 'warmth stealers' who end up nibbling away at her warmth. A starts from the phrase "It's not because of the bread," and brings her own story, fermenting between bread, planning, work, and life, onto the stage. In this performance, 1,000 won is not just a price, but a playful rule that moves the entire venue. From the setting that the admission was originally 10,000 won but became 1,000 won with a 90% discount, notices like 'Question: 1,000 won', 'Air conditioner 1 degree: 1,000 won', 'Restroom: 1,000 won', 'Step on the line: 1,000 won' are placed throughout the theater. The audience enters this strange 1,000-won world even before watching the show. 《You Call This a Comedy — How to Make a 1,000 Won Show》 is not a performance showing finished stage art. It is an experiment where people standing on stage for the first time turn the funny scenes of their lives into comedy. It's fine to be funny, it's fine to be clumsy. If someone can recall a small challenge inside themselves by watching the struggles of book people, that is enough. A thousand won is not a cheap price, but the minimum courage to start something.
