The figures appearing on the screen do not possess the complete appearance of a rabbit. Their bodily structures are unclear, images and symbols that seem unrelated are mixed together, and sometimes they look closer to objects or traces than living things. Nevertheless, the moment long ears are added, viewers generally read them as rabbits. Not every figure becomes a rabbit just by attaching long ears. However, in front of the actual image, that clue operates faster and stronger than expected. Viewers conjure up the name 'rabbit' before fully examining the identity of the figure, and only after that do they doubt the judgment they have made. Perception arrives ahead of logical explanation, so to speak. Long ears are closer to a minimal sign that directs the reading of the image in a specific direction rather than proving the essence of a rabbit. Different figures are brought into a single category when long ears are added, and conversely, the possibility of them looking like something entirely different increases when those ears disappear. Little information creates a strong perception, but that perception does not explain everything about the figure. In the working process, enough clues are left for them to be read as rabbits, but the entire screen is not completely subjugated to that name. While looking like rabbits, the figures also harbor other possibilities such as objects, figures, machines, symbols, and lingering images of memory. A single name makes the figure quickly understood, but other elements within the screen continuously conflict with that name. We classify unfamiliar images based on a few familiar characteristics, reading facial expressions, intentions, and traces of emotions and memories within them. Even before fully knowing what the figure actually is, we begin to imagine a presence solely through the sensation of likeness. However, reading a figure as if it were a familiar being is different from accepting it as entirely the same being. Even in front of figures with faces or bodies resembling humans, and responses and memories, it is not easily decided up to what point that likeness remains valid. Familiar signs draw unfamiliar presences close, but unexplained differences create boundaries once again. The figures on the screen oscillate between rabbits and non-rabbits, living things and objects, familiar beings and yet-unclassified beings. Names are quickly given depending on what they resemble, but whether that name alone can explain the identity and status of the figure remains. Long ears are not the correct answer, but a direction. They invoke the name of a rabbit while simultaneously leaving behind the rest that cannot be explained by that name. Rather than a shape to reproduce a single subject, a rabbit is closer to a device that reveals the way images are created and read. The screen lingers between the moment it is read as a rabbit and the moment it scatters back into an unfamiliar figure.
