About this event

[Performance Introduction] Every Monday in 2026, Lee Chul-jin's Seungmu story <Only Seungmu> will be held at Sungkyun Small Theater in Daehangno. Seungmu (Buddhist monk's dance) is a representative artistic work of Korean traditional dance. It is a highly aesthetic dance that captures both the spirituality of Buddhist practice and deep human emotions. The exquisite lines drawn by the long sleeves (jangsam), the restrained breathing and rhythm, and the aesthetics of "stillness in motion" (jeongjungdong) create a world of exploding vitality and profound contemplation within silence. This stage features Seungmu interpreted with deep insight by dancer Lee Chul-jin, who continues the authentic lineage of Han Seong-jun, Han Young-sook, and Lee Ae-ju. Having walked the single path of Seungmu for decades, he presents the full density of time and the philosophy of dance on stage. The traces of practice accumulated with every movement and breath fully reveal his mastery as an artist.
