The 2026 Gyeongju Golden Carnival is a festival designed to fill the old city center with new energy by boldly removing the main stage centered on Bonghwangdae and using 'OFF THE STAGE' as a concept, utilizing various empty spaces such as closed movie theaters and the old downtown commercial district. Instead of one giant stage, several small LIVE spaces have been created. The festival is designed so that the audience 'discovers' the performance rather than 'arriving' at the venue. The 5 minutes between venues, the cafes and restaurants dropped into by chance, and other audience members encountered in alleys all become part of the festival—"the moment you stay, the old city center becomes a performance venue." Local F&B is not just a side event but a device that coordinates the rhythm between performances. In the cycle of listening to music, eating, walking, and listening again, the audience experiences a new way to use Gyeongju's original downtown. It points to the moment when old theaters, empty stores, and alleys passed by out of familiarity shine again upon meeting music.
