[Performance Introduction] The last living bassist of the Bill Evans Trio, Eddie Gomez Special performance celebrating 60 years since his first meeting with Bill Evans Bass master Eddie Gomez has performed across various genres from traditional jazz to free jazz, fusion, and Latin. Throughout his career playing alongside legendary musicians as both leader and sideman, his most notable role was as part of the Bill Evans Trio—led by the lyrical pianist who laid the foundation of modern jazz piano. Meeting Bill Evans in 1966, he played in the Bill Evans Trio for 11 years until 1977, recording as its longest-serving member. Together they produced numerous iconic albums; notably, only 3 duo bass albums exist in Bill Evans' entire discography, all of which featured Eddie Gomez, showcasing Evans' absolute trust in him. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the historic meeting between Eddie Gomez and Bill Evans. Recommended by guitarist Jim Hall, Eddie Gomez first met Bill Evans on April 12, 1966, at London House in Chicago. Following a two-week trial period, they toured various West Coast US cities starting in May. Released last year, the Bill Evans Trio's <Portraits at The Penthouse> captures a live 1966 concert in Seattle, marking Gomez's first recording with Evans and heralding a new chapter for the trio. Following early bassist Scott LaFaro and second-period member Chuck Israels, the combination with Eddie Gomez—forming the third era—brought fresh energy and direction to the Bill Evans Trio, making 1966 a pivotal milestone for the legendary ensemble. This performance will feature key repertoire of the Bill Evans Trio—such as Nardis, My Foolish Heart, My Man's Gone Now, All the Things You Are, and I Will Wait for You—along with Solar, selected to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Miles Davis' birth. Joined by intellectual pianist Stefan Karlsson, celebrating 30 years with the Eddie Gomez Trio, and drummer Steve Pruitt, early drummer for Snarky Puppy who delivered dynamic performances at the 2024 Seoul Forest Jazz Festival, this concert will offer masterly elegance through delicate and lyrical playing. It will take place at Various Jazz Club, Daegu's premier jazz venue offering an intimate viewing experience. A must-see performance for any Bill Evans fan to witness a living jazz legend up close.
