About this event

[About the Performance] The National Theater Company's Creative Play Contest revived after 15 years, presenting its first fruit! Through the contest and staged readings, it finally reaches the main stage—a journey of creative development meeting the audience. Initiated in 1957, the National Theater Company's Creative Play Contest has discovered plays and playwrights representing Korean theater history, such as <Family> and <Full Sail>, carrying forward the flow of original Korean playwriting. <Yeokhaenggi (Chronicle of Retrograde)> is the first Grand Prize winner of the resumed contest after 15 years. Selected among 303 submitted plays, <Yeokhaenggi> developed through refining processes and staged readings to finally meet the audience in a full production. Discovering new possibilities in Korean theater and connecting written works to the stage, <Yeokhaenggi> continues the lineage of new original playwriting within the National Theater Company's creative development journey. [Synopsis] 'In Ahn-na', who was about to let go of her life, enters an unknown underground world beneath her floor alongside wooden tablet 'Dup' as her house crumbles. It is a massive house where lost and forgotten things gather to live, and a space where 'Kigal' exists—a mysterious puddle where all memories vanish into oblivion. In Ahn-na meets family members with unbelievable appearances there, such as grandmother 'Jumoni' with roots growing on her body, elder sister 'Pink' standing on all fours carrying a hammer, and 'Doldeong-i' becoming one with stone. They do not fully remember each other and instead inflict deep wounds on one another. However, as In Ahn-na's mother 'Eresh' awakens deep inside the underground world, clues to forgotten family secrets and the past slowly begin to unravel...
