About this event

Gallery Joeun is holding Lee Jae-hyun's solo exhibition 《Here I am》 from July 16 to August 8, 2026. This exhibition is the artist's second solo exhibition at Gallery Joeun, presenting new works that painterly unravel childhood memories and present time discovered in familiar everyday landscapes, based on the narrative of memory and emotion the artist has consistently explored. Where memories linger, meet the 'me' of today Lee Jae-hyun reconstructs personal memories and experiences into a painterly landscape, capturing on canvas a time where the past and present coexist. His works feature objects and spaces easily encountered around us, such as boxes, puppies, houses, gardens, and bricks. These are not mere still lifes or backgrounds, but mediums that summon memories residing in each person's life and landscapes containing emotions. The artist overlays emotional memories onto familiar everyday life passed by every day. Fragments of childhood that anyone might have are reawakened through his gaze, and fragments of memory meet imagination to be reconstructed into new painterly scenes. Rather than explaining a specific story, the landscapes on the screen naturally evoke each viewer's memories and emotions, creating a time where different experiences lead to empathy. The exhibition title 《Here I am》 signifies the moment when the past self lingering in memories and the current self meet on a single screen. The artist creates a time of comforting and consoling each other on canvas, offering today's us, who live fierce daily lives, a margin to pause and look into our own hearts. Although his paintings start from personal narrative, they ultimately expand into landscapes of memory and emotion that anyone can relate to. This exhibition presents about 20 new works. Brushstrokes and free lines thickly built up using the impasto technique create deep density as if stacking layers of memory on the screen. In landscapes crossing the boundary between abstraction and figuration, familiar objects become mediums evoking personal memories, and the times of past and present quietly overlap within a single screen. After studying architecture, sculpture, and fine arts, Lee Jae-hyun has built his own working world by exploring various media and formative languages. Currently focusing on painting, he continues to expand his art world through solo exhibitions at Gallery Joeun, Whitestone Seoul's opening exhibition, domestic and international solo exhibitions, and various art fairs in Dubai, the Philippines, Hong Kong, and the United States.
