The Korea National Opera stages Wagner's opera 'Das Rheingold,' opening the prelude to the 'Der Ring des Nibelungen' (The Ring of the Nibelung) series. 'Das Rheingold' is the starting point of the tetralogy epic Wagner completed over 26 years, a work that concentrates the origins of love, power, greed, and curses within a mythological narrative. Drawing the moment the world order cracks through the conflict over the Rhine gold, this work is where the philosophy running through the entire series is first presented. Conducted by Lothar Koenigs, who left a deep impression with dense conducting in 2024's 'The Dead City,' the structural tension and energy of Wagner's music are revealed. Directed by Lorenzo Fioroni, who showcased flexible imagination and contemporary sensibility in 2025's 'Otello,' this project interprets mythological stories and marks the beginning of an unprecedented long-term project in the domestic opera scene continuing until 2029.
