In an age where hundreds of millions of images are easily born on liquid crystal screens every day and vanish lightly with a flick of a finger, digital technology and the flood of AI have made it possible for anyone to capture and replicate moments. Amidst this maze of light pixels, the heavy resonance and afterimages of analog photography are gradually fading. We are losing the 'authenticity of looking'—deeply and longly contemplating an object. Since its birth, photography has been an art of time, a physical exploration through light that captures and leaves behind a cross-section of flowing time. The masterpieces born from the fingertips of 20th-century masters were not mere replicas of phenomena through a cold machine; they were the authors' unique philosophies of facing and interpreting the world. In contrast to digital images, photographic works developed and printed in an analog way are called 'physical prints.' These are photos completed as silver salt (light-sensitive components combining silver and halogen elements) particles and platinum grains permeate into the printing paper under the red light of a darkroom. In these crystals of 'silver alchemy,' one can feel the air, temperature, and even the trembling of the wind from the moment the masters held their breath and pressed the shutter. It is a heavy texture of analog printing that a digital screen can never capture. This is the 'weight of physical time' endured on-site and the sublime trace left by aesthetic labor. The special exhibition "20th Century Photography Masters Exhibition - Light, Stopping Time" features a carefully selected collection from Gallery Lumiere. It brings together over 80 masterpieces by 17 world-renowned photography masters who laid the foundation and flourished modern photography, including Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908-1904), Tina Modotti (1896-1942), and William Klein (1926-2022). This is not just a retrospective of past masterpieces, but a journey of contemplation following the eyes of masters who loved and gazed at the world more passionately than anyone. It highlights the trajectory of the era carved with light from various angles, from pioneers of modern photography who elevated photography to fine art, to masters who emphasized pure humanism, to documentary masters who testified to the dynamics of the city and the deep inner self of human existence. Although modern people are surrounded by rapidly consumed digital media, paradoxically, they yearn for the warmth of analog. This exhibition aims to provide a station to stay within the calm shades of black and white, away from the lightness of passing digital frames. We invite you to stop in front of each photograph for a long time; like reading a carefully written handwritten letter, listening to the master's breath flowing between the fine black and white particles will leave a deep lingering impression that will not evaporate for a long time. - Main Program: Exhibition of approximately 80 works by 17 photographers - Side Events & Programs: Screening of video materials / Sale of artist catalogs and art products (goods) / Sale of original print works
