About this event

Cheong Gallery hosts a solo exhibition by artist Park Suhyung for the August show. This exhibition showcases both the 'Grass' series, which captures the vitality of nature and the flow of seasons, and the 'People' series, which expresses human existence and relationships. We ask for your interest and support for this exhibition where you can feel the artist's delicate gaze and sensibility through different themes. The exhibition runs until Sunday, August 30, and you can also participate in the Gangnam Art Stamp Tour during the exhibition period. Artist Park Suhyung (b. 1983) graduated from Hongik University Department of Painting and its graduate school, majored in painting at Cranbrook Academy of Art in the USA, and later obtained a Doctorate in Fine Arts from Hongik University. Based on various experiences and research accumulated at home and abroad, he has been building his own unique artistic world by pictorially exploring the cycle of nature and life and the flow of time. Artist's Note My work is created through the accumulation of time spent in continuous line drawing. Lines that seem the same yet are different vary in direction, length, thickness, and speed. Through these lines, I explore the differences within a collective and themes regarding society and the individual. The overlapping and entangling of numerous lines represent the society I observe, using grass as a metaphor for people. The sight of people entangled and venting their desires is a slice of daily life that happens every day, and it is also a reflection of myself. The grass in the paintings is composed of lines drawn from bottom to top. These are lines containing the will to rise, resistance, and desire, aimed at capturing the sight of overflowing mutual desires swaying like waves and the appearance of weeds that seem to grow endlessly at the end of summer. Lines and dots drawn as if crying out repeat growth and spread seeds within the background space. The background of quiet colors, where nothing seems to exist, is drawn from top to bottom to express gravity or represent the empty space cast upon us. If the act of drawing during the process contains my desires and frustrations, the background functions as a space of nothingness without will or desire. The endless struggling unfolding under the space of 'nothingness' resembles a human life, and the silent, unanswering background flows with stillness. In this space, numerous brushstrokes become gestures in the air, repeating the cycle of blooming and withering forever, like the growth cycle of a plant.
