[Introduction] Play <Hometown Village> Synopsis Three grandmothers, Mi-ok, Sun-young, and In-sook, who moved from Sakhalin to the Hometown Village in Ansan, stage a hostage situation, convinced that National Assembly member Park Sang-goo was the Korean squad leader who spearheaded the exploitation of themselves and their compatriots. However, Park Sang-goo denies being the perpetrator, and the three grandmothers try to extract a confession from him. Considering this incident an act of terrorism against a constitutional institution, the police leadership orders SWAT team forces to move in. Despite coaxing and persuasion from the police, the grandmothers refuse to surrender, and at last, Park Sang-goo confesses that he was indeed that Korean squad leader... Writer's Intention (Playwright Shin Seong-woo) Understanding the meaning of forgiveness seems to be a very difficult thing. Conversely, understanding the meaning of not forgiving is also harder than expected. Does it necessarily mean receiving a sincere apology? Is retaliation or revenge all that remains? I cannot easily answer this. This deliberation bothered me equally when standing before the word 'forgiveness' regarding past history. Feeling anger and punishing evil deeds is natural. Nevertheless, the reason to ponder forgiveness is that we do not want our own lives to freeze up filled with hatred, and we wish to avoid anger and hatred becoming ends in themselves. Through pondering forgiveness, reconciliation becomes possible, and upon that foundation, I hope the promise of a new relationship will bloom.
