[Performance Introduction] 'Can revenge become justice?' The mother who killed the father. The children who try to kill the mother to avenge the father. And that revenge gives birth to yet another revenge. Bloodline 'Electra' is a work that reexamines family, lineage, revenge, and the generational transmission of violence from today's perspective, based on Sophocles' classical tragedy <Electra>. Electra, who cannot forget her father's death, she waits for long years solely for the return of her brother Orestes. Believing that he will someday return and complete the revenge for her father's death, and finally, Orestes returns. The waiting ends and revenge begins. Yet the moment the revenge they desired is completed, we stand before a new question. 'Is revenge paid in blood truly justice?' < Synopsis > King Agamemnon, who returned victorious from the Trojan War, is murdered. The one who killed him is his wife and Electra's mother, Clytemnestra. Losing her father, Electra lives harboring hatred and anger toward her mother. The only hope left to her is her younger brother Orestes, who left the royal palace in childhood. Electra believes: 'When that child returns, everything will end.' However, one day, devastating news is delivered to her. Orestes has died. And an urn containing her brother's ashes is placed before her. Believing that even her last hope has vanished, Electra collapses, clutching the urn. Yet Orestes, whom she believed to be dead, appears before her eyes. He was alive. Finally reunited, the siblings. The long-awaited time of revenge begins. The children trying to pay for the father's blood with the mother's blood. Yet what on earth will remain at the end of revenge that began with blood? < Director's Intention > 'Someone must stop this history of blood.' Sophocles' <Electra> is a story from thousands of years ago, but the questions contained within it continue even now. Why do we inherit the hatred of the previous generation? Electra remembers her father's death. Yet as time passes, that memory does not stop at sorrow. Sorrow becomes anger, anger becomes hatred, and finally hatred becomes the conviction that 'we must take revenge.' In this work, Electra is not viewed simply as a character obsessed with revenge. She too may be another victim who inherited a tragedy that began before her. The hatred that the parent generation failed to end has become the destiny of the child generation. Therefore, the question this work asks is not 'Did revenge succeed?' 'Has revenge truly ended?' Blood calls for more blood, and revenge breeds more revenge. Then who will stop it first? < Why 'Bloodline'?! > 'BLOODLINE' Blood connects the family. Yet in this work, blood does not signify love alone. Grudges, hatred, and revenge are also passed down like blood—from father to daughter, from parent to child. Electra inherited revenge she did not start, and Orestes as well enters into a destiny he did not choose. Therefore, the 'Blood Line' spoken of by Bloodline 'Electra' is not simple lineage.
