About this event

[PERFORMANCE INTRODUCTION] “From the grandeur of traditional classical music to the dynamism of popular music, a grand epic of harmony drawn with 38 years of melodies” As a pioneer of Korean crossover music, the Seoul Pops Orchestra, which has walked a unique path for 38 years, intends to hold a special commemorative concert celebrating its 38th anniversary with Music Director Ha Seong-ho, perfectly breaking the boundaries between classical and modern popular music. This performance was planned to consolidate the 38-year know-how of Seoul Pops, which has added the flexibility of popular music to the solemnity of traditional classical music, and prove its artistic substance and long-term officially verified capability to audiences in the high-level acoustic space of Lotte Concert Hall. In this stage, the vividness unique to the orchestra is maximized through gorgeous Latin music such as Márquez's <Danzón No. 2> and <Cubana Carnival>, while world-class baritone Ko Sung-hyun sings the aria from Leoncavallo's opera <Pagliacci> and a self-composed song <Life> that honestly contains the autobiographical life story of conductor Ha Seong-ho with overwhelming vocal volume, deeply containing the dignity and thick lyricism of a classical-only hall. In addition, with a collaboration with Korean popular music legend singer Park Nam-jung, masterly songs such as <Because I Love You> and <Drawing You> are reinterpreted with grand orchestration, and diverse instrumental solos such as two cellos, violin, and accordion, and the harmony of popera group La Classe W show the maximum expression power an orchestra can present. In particular, actively utilizing the rich reverberation and vineyard-style immersive structure unique to Lotte Concert Hall, it will impart three-dimensional and dynamic sound to large-scale orchestra performances where vocal music, popular music, and diverse instruments intersect. This will present a fresh shock of crossover music to classical aficionados and the essential enjoyment and overwhelming emotion of orchestra music to general audiences, presenting the most evolved form of 'popularization of classical music'. This performance focuses on the 'cultural synergy' created when the temporal value of 38 years of official history meets the spatial value of Lotte Concert Hall. Through a wide range of repertoire configurations encompassing all generations, it will inject vitality into the local culture and arts ecosystem, and simultaneously prove the solid self-sustainability and artistic completion of a private orchestra, serving as a precious opportunity to raise the status of Korean performance culture.
