The 2026 Wanju Modern History and Culture Festival is a modern culinary festival held in the area of Samnye Culture and Arts Village in Wanju-gun, a place that holds the pain of rice exploitation in the Honam region during the Japanese colonial era. Themed "1930 Samnye Station Pocha," it modernly reinterprets the historical background and sentiment of the port-opening era. It aims to revitalize the local economy by attracting family visitors in their 30s and 40s and the MZ generation, as well as group railway tourists of about 240 people linked with the Gugak (Korean Traditional Music) Wine Train. An outdoor market (yajang) with 1,000 seats will be set up inside the venue, and a Western Inland Region Promotion Hall will be operated where visitors can enjoy modern gourmet snacks centered on ingredients from the port-opening era, such as skewers and bread, along with representative ingredients from various cities and counties in Jeollabuk-do. In addition, experience content reflecting the modern history concept will be operated. About 40 food and experience booths involving local merchant associations and youth creators will be prepared. It is a stay-over type night festival that encourages visitor participation through tarot experiences, stamp tours, and AI photo booths. 1. Main Program - Samnye Station Pocha: The sentiment of a modern street stall (pocha) under the music and the sunset of the train station, enjoyed in a 1,000-seat outdoor seating area. - Sunset Outdoor Concert: Celebratory performances by Daybreak and Rothy, and a cocktail show using traditional liquor. - EDM DJ Party: A dance party combined with intense EDM beats. 2. Consumer Participation Program - Joseon Fortune Telling: An experience where you pay a fee to enjoy tarot and Saju (Four Pillars of Destiny) inside a mysterious tent with hanging bead curtains. - Samnye Department Store: An experience zone where you enjoy modern sentiment in today's way through activities, play, and a market (Gabae General Store, Gaksi Workshop, Taegeuk Workshop, Samnye Game Center, Samnye Cafe, Daldal Confectionery, Samnye Stationery, Miin General Store). - Samnye Modern Makgeollympics: Five modern-style mini-games using Makgeolli. - Stamp Tour: A Wanju mission program where you collect stamps by visiting modern history spots throughout the venue. 3. Other Content - Various food and sales booths (approx. 40 in total): 'Liquor Zone' selling traditional liquors from Wanju local breweries, 'Food Zone' showcasing modern delicacies, and 'Local Food Zone' which is a direct market for Wanju local food. - Consumption Promotion Lucky Draw Event: A prize drawing for festival visitors and stamp tour participants with prizes including AirPods 4th Gen (Noise Canceling), Olive Young gift cards, Onnuri gift cards, and Wanju traditional liquor sets.
